Localization

Sell in more countries and languages. Plinth adds the selectors, and Shopify handles prices and translations.

Countries and currencies

  1. Set up the countries you sell to in Settings > Markets. Each market can have its own currency.
  2. Plinth’s country/region selector lets shoppers pick their country. Prices then show in that country’s currency.

The selector shows the country name with its currency, for example “Canada (CAD $)”. Shoppers press Update to apply a change, so the page never jumps unexpectedly.

Languages

  1. Add and publish languages in Settings > Languages.
  2. Plinth’s language selector lists each language in its own name, for example “Français” and “Deutsch”.
  3. Translate your content (products, collections, pages and theme text) with the free Translate & Adapt app, or a translation app of your choice.

Where the selectors appear

Location Setting Default
Footer Footer section > Show country/region selector and Show language selector On
Header Header section > Show country/region selector and Show language selector Off

On phones, header selectors move into the menu drawer.

A selector only appears when there’s a choice to make: the country selector needs more than one country in your markets, and the language selector needs more than one published language. If you turn one on and it doesn’t appear, the theme editor shows a hint explaining why.

Changing theme text

All the text built into Plinth (button labels, messages, headings like “Your cart”) can be changed without code:

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes.
  2. Next to Plinth, select ⋯ > Edit default theme content.
  3. Search for the text you want to change, and enter your own wording.

Plinth ships with English text. Add other languages through Settings > Languages and translate them with Translate & Adapt.
